How to use this list

  1. Pick 8-12 platforms that overlap with your audience — quality > quantity.
  2. Reuse the bio templates above so your wording stays consistent across the web (this helps Google's entity recognition).
  3. Always add an avatar + cover image — bare profiles look like spam and get nofollowed harder.
  4. Verify your site where the platform offers it (Pinterest, Mastodon, Crunchbase) — it unlocks dofollow or "verified" badges.
  5. Lead with the dofollow + highest-authority platforms. Hashnode, Substack, Bear Blog, ORCID, Notion and Google Sites pass real link equity; LinkedIn, Crunchbase, YouTube and Pinterest are top-authority citations even when nofollow.
  6. Don't blast all 45 in one day. Spread submissions over 2-3 weeks and post real content where the platform expects it (a Medium article, a Behance project, a Dev.to post).

Frequently asked questions

Are Web 2.0 profile links still worth building in 2026? #
Yes — but the value has shifted. Most major platforms apply rel="nofollow" or rel="ugc", so you will not pass raw PageRank from those. The wins are: brand citations Google factors into entity recognition (and AI answers increasingly cite), direct referrer traffic from your bio, and SERP coverage when your profile pages rank for your name. A handful of platforms here still pass dofollow links — we flag those so you can prioritise them.
Which platforms here actually give a dofollow link? #
As of our June 2026 re-check: Hashnode and Substack (in-post links), Bear Blog, Carrd, ORCID (profile website field), Notion and Google Sites (published-page body links), and F6S (profile, reported). WordPress.com is "mixed" — your own post-body links are dofollow while sidebar/comment links are nofollow. We corrected several platforms that older lists still wrongly mark dofollow — Dev.to, CodePen, Vimeo, Issuu, Gravatar and Mastodon are all nofollow today. Attribution can change, so verify with "view source" before relying on link equity.
Should I create profiles on every platform? #
No. Pick the 8-12 most relevant to your audience and fill them out properly with a real bio, avatar, banner and a link back. Half-finished profiles signal spam; complete profiles compound over time. Lead with the dofollow platforms plus the highest-authority citations (LinkedIn, Crunchbase, YouTube, Pinterest).
How current are these signup links? #
Every signup URL and link-attribute note on this page was re-verified in June 2026 against the live platforms. We removed dead entries (e.g. the old Mix slot and broken SoundCloud/BetaList signup paths) and added modern high-value platforms (ORCID, Bear Blog, Notion, Google Sites, Threads, Indie Hackers and creator pages). The shortlist + copy-ready bio template turns a multi-hour chore into about 20 minutes.
